Mayo Fianna Fáil representatives press Minister Chambers on N59 funding

Councillors Brendan Mulroy and Paul McNamara had a 'constructive meeting' with Minister of State for Transport, Jack Chambers, in relation to the funding required for the N59 project during the minister's recent visit to Mayo.

The tender process for a significant investment into the Newport-Derrada section of the road is currently in progress.

Both Fianna Fáil councillors pressed Minister Chambers on the need to prioritise funding this initiative – in particular from a road safety and regional development perspective – as well as a number of other areas.

Minister Chambers, who is a regular visitor to Newport, committed to the councillors – and to Minister of State Dara Calleary, who organised the meeting – that he understood the importance and significance of the project, and said he would revert to them following further consultation with Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
