Mayo TD welcomes progress on primary care facility

Michael Ring T.D. had raised the issue of the lack of progress on the Ballyhaunis Primary Care Centre over the last number of months.

Following on from further queries made in the last month, Deputy Ring has today received a reply from the HSE.

It stated: “Following negotiations, the developer has accepted the original terms set out in the agreement for lease and will return to site before the end of September 2024 to complete the project.

"We await a detailed programme for recommencement and completion.

“This is very welcome news for Ballyhaunis and the surrounding areas.

"This is something that I have raised on many occasions with the Minister for Health and even as recently as last month I raised it by way of a Topical Issue Debate in the Dáil.

"During the debate, I sought clearer dates for the recommencement of works on site and I sought specific details on what action was actually being taken by the HSE to progress this centre for the people of Ballyhaunis.

“This was a primary care centre that was due to be completed in October 2020 yet works came to a complete standstill in 2021.

“Ballyhaunis and the surrounding community urgently needs a fully operational Primary Care Centre.”

“As Ballyhaunis is such a multi-cultural town, the facility is needed more than ever as it is a vital piece of health infrastructure.”

“It has been an extremely frustrating time for the people of Ballyhaunis and the surrounding areas in light of their needs for such a centre.”
