Same again for Mayo as Derry come to town

Mayo GAA senior football manager Kevin McStay has named the same 15 players that started against Dublin last weekend for the All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarterfinals against Derry this weekend.

It will be the third championship meeting between Mayo and Derry. In 2007, Derry won a round two qualifier by 2-13 to 1-6 in Celtic Park, while 10 years later, in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, Mayo reversed this result, winning by 2-21 to 1-13 after extra time in a round 2A qualifier.

The game finished level at 1-12 a piece at the end of normal time in front of a crowd of 11,465.

A number of players from the 2017 encounter will feature for both counties tomorrow (Saturday).

Aidan O'Shea, Stephen Coen, Cillian and Diarmuid O'Connor and Conor Loftus all played that day for Mayo and are in the squad this weekend, with Paddy Durcan missing the coming game due to injury.

For Derry, Brendan Rogers, Ciaran McFaul, Chrissy McKaigue, Niall Loughlin, Shane McGuigan and Conor Doherty all played in 2017.

Kildare's Brendan Cawley has been confirmed as the referee for the game, which throws in at 6.30 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, June 22) in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, Castlebar.

In the absence of Paddy Durcan, Stephen Coen continues as captain. The match will be live streamed on GAAGO, and there will also be live commentary on Midwest Radio with Michael D. McAndrew and Martin Carney.

Mayo GAA will have updates across all social media channels as well. Tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster.

The Mayo team in full is as follows: Colm Reape; Jack Coyne, David McBrien, Donnacha McHugh; Rory Brickenden, Sam Callinan, Eoghan McLaughlin; Stephen Coen, Matthew Ruane; Tommy Conroy, Darren McHale, Jordan Flynn; Aidan O'Shea, Jack Carney, Ryan O'Donoghue.

On the subs' bench are: Rob Hennelly, James Carr, Enda Hession, Conor Loftus, Cillian O'Connor, Eoin O'Donoghue, Pádraig O'Hora, Michael Plunkett, Paul Towey, Bob Tuohy.

Earlier this year, Derry beat Mayo by 3-15 to 2-13 in round six of the Allianz National Football League in Castlebar.

Between league and championship this year, Mayo have played 13 games, winning eight, drawing one and losing four. Derry, meanwhile, have played 12, winning eight and losing four.

Elsewhere in the weekend's preliminary quarterfinals, Galway host Monaghan, Louth welcome Cork, and Tyrone take on Roscommon in Omagh.
