Mayo Autism Parents Support Group expands into east Mayo

The Mayo Autism Parents Support Group (MAPS) is excited to announce its expansion into east Mayo following its one-year anniversary in April.

To celebrate, MAPS is hosting an information evening on Tuesday, July 2, at 7 p.m. in the Kilkelly Trimoige Community Centre. The event will include a brief talk on the support available to parents of autistic children and teens, along with an opportunity for informal chats over tea and coffee.

Founded by Terisina Fitzpatrick, a parent and Adolescent Psychotherapist, MAPS has quickly become a vital resource for parents in the region.

The group aims to foster a supportive network, share resources, and advocate for greater understanding and acceptance of autism.

"It is a privilege to hold these group meetings in Mayo," said Fitzpatrick. "We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has been a part of our journey over the past year, from our dedicated members to our supportive community partners like The Family Centre in Castlebar, TACU Resource Centre in Ballinrobe, and local businesses.

As we expand, we remain committed to empowering, educating, and uplifting parents."

MAPS meets on the third Thursday of each month at The Family Centre in Castlebar, offering a safe, confidential environment for parents to share stories and resources. The meetings are free to attend, and MAPS hopes to establish a similar gathering in Kilkelly.
