Andy Moran backs history-maker O'Shea for another season with Mayo

Former Mayo footballer Andy Moran expressed his confidence that Aidan O'Shea will return to the green and red jersey next year.

O'Shea, who turns 34 on Saturday, has been a stalwart for Mayo since making his championship debut in 2009.

Despite the passing years, he continues to deliver stellar performances, particularly impressing supporters this season.

O'Shea recently etched his name in the annals of Gaelic football history by becoming the outfield player with the most intercounty senior football championship appearances. His 91st SFC appearance came during Mayo's recent hard-fought loss to Derry in Castlebar.

While there has been some speculation about O'Shea's future with Mayo, Moran dismisses any doubts regarding his return in 2025. "I don’t think there’s any question about Aidan coming back," Moran asserted.

"There are maybe one or two others that you’d be more worried about. But Aidan, I suppose I had the advantage that I never relied on pace when I got a bit older and Aidan is kind of the same, he was never going to be the fastest player in the world."

Moran highlighted O'Shea's outstanding performance in a recent game, particularly noting an instance where young Eoin McEvoy attempted to challenge the seasoned player.

"For anyone that was at the game, young McEvoy tried to take him up the line at one stage, I was just like, ‘bad idea’," Moran recounted. "He turned him back in and to see him playing like that again was a joy to all Mayo people, to be honest."
