€121,894 funding for Mayo islands

FUNDING of €121,894 has been approved in total to Mayo islands under the Islands Minor Capital Works 2024, Deputy Michael Ring has confirmed.

The funding covers a range of works such as solar street lighting, car park works, mobility improvements and car park protections and is coming from the Department of Rural and Community Development

The following are the successful funding allocations.

Clare Island: L-5897 (pier) €12,500; L-5897-4 €18,000; L-5897-2 €4,500; Portnakilly Pier road €27,000; L-5897 to L-5897-2 link road €10,000; cattle grid replacement €2,700; solar street light €8,542.

Inishturk: Solar street light €10,116.

Roonagh Pier: Carpark works, markings, etc., €9,636.

Doran's Point: Car park protection €17,100.

Inishlyre: Mobility improvements €1,800.

Said Deputy Ring: “This is very welcome news for our islands. Funding of this nature is vital in maintaining and developing the infrastructure on our islands.

“It important that we continue to support our islands for the benefit of the communities on the island and the visitors coming to the area.”

Minister of State Alan Dillon expressed his gratitude to Mayo County Council and community organisations involved in these projects, highlighting the importance of these improvements in supporting the sustainable development of Mayo's islands.

“These investments will ensure that the islands continue to thrive, providing better infrastructure and facilities for all,” he said.
