Funeral takes place today of Mayo GAA stalwart Mick Reape

FOND tributes are being paid to Michael (Mick) Reape, a Mayo GAA stalwart, who passed away in his 94th year during the week and whose funeral takes place today (Saturday).

Mick, a former president of Knockmore GAA Club, was grandfather of Mayo senior goalkeeper Colm Reape.

He is also survived by his daughters Caroline (Mancini) and Josephine (Greavy), son Pat, sons-in-law Mario and John, daughters-in-law Geraldine and Bernie and his other grandchildren, Michael, Cillian, Cara, Aoife, Niall, Eoghan, Chloe and Aisling, sisters Mary and Bridget, brothers John and Dan, nephews, nieces, neighbours and many friends.

Mick was predeceased by his wife Eileen and son John, his parents Thomas and Mary, brothers Bill, Tom, Tony, Pat and Jimmy and his sister Margaret Durcan.

Despite inclement weather, large crowds attended Mick’s home in Toneybane, Knockmore, last evening (Friday) as his remains reposed there.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated in the Church of Christ the King, Knockmore, at 12 noon today (Saturday) prior to the funeral proceeding to Ballinahaglish Cemetery.

Tributes paid online to Mr. Reape since his death describe him as “hardworking”, a “lovely gentleman who always had a friendly smile”.

One message of condolences reads: “Mick was a man of great vision when he and others formed the Bord na nÓg structure of the Knockmore GAA Club in the mid Seventies.

“We have memories of many happy days spent with Mick over the years. May he now enjoy the best seat in Heaven with all who have gone before him.”
