Giant step for Mayo multi-million-euro commercial investment

The construction of a ground-breaking multi-million-euro commercial development in the heart of Castlebar's town centre has taken a significant step today.

A giant steel frame, which is central to the project, has arrived on site and works can now progress at a steady pace over the coming weeks and months to reach completion.

Dermot Fadden, a prominent local businessman and owner of 6th Sense men's fashion company, is behind the ambitious revitalisation investment at the former Lavelle's Bakery and Upper Crust sites on Bridge Street/Main Street in the county town.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year or in early 2025.

Mick Duane is the main contractor for a development which includes the creation of cutting-edge retail spaces on the ground floor, along with office facilities to house the head offices of 6th Sense, in addition to residential accommodations.

A central feature of this development is the integration of a new retail link, further extending the current riverside and greenway walks in the town.

Mr. Fadden stated: "I am very pleased that the work on Main Street has now entered a crucial phase in its development.

"It has taken some time to get here but I look forward to the positive impact this project will have on our beloved Castlebar."

Meanwhile, across the street, work on the extension to the Bridge St. Bar premises is ongoing.
