Family interrupt Mayo council meeting to highlight repairs issue

MEMBERS of a family interrupted a Mayo council meeting to seek action on getting house repairs done.

They announced their arrival with a knock at the door of the council chamber at HQ in Castlebar before asking that someone would listen to their case.

Apologising for the disturbance, a man, who stated his address in south Mayo and who was accompanied by his son and wife, who has had health issues, explained how he has been on to the council for two years.

“I have no heat,” he told the meeting. To get into the house he has to 'go through a window'.

“I have tried everything,” he told the chamber.

Cathaoirleach Councillor John O'Hara indicated that the meeting would have to be adjourned.

The man requested: “I would like someone to hear my case.”

It was agreed to adjourn for five minutes and the family left the chamber where they got to speak with council officials.
