Taylor Swift fulfils dream with private visit to beautiful Mayo island

Taylor Swift has fulfilled a dream by visiting Achill Island.

The world's best-selling music artist fell in love with the place while watching the Oscar-nominated film, The Banshee of Inisherin, and wanted to go there to see it for herself.

And following her hugely successful concerts in Dublin earlier this month, she made a private visit to the Mayo beauty spot.

The locations she visited included Cloughmore, where the fictional JJ Devine's Pub, the location of many of the scenes of the film were shot, was built.

When she met the director of the blockbuster, Martin McDonagh, two years ago, she revealed the pub 'blew her mind" and "looked like it had been there forever."

Swift, herself, has an interest in film-making, having written and directed the short film, 'All Too Well', in 2021.

During her low-profile, whistle-stop visit, she also savoured the beauty of Slievemore, Dugort, Dooagh and Keem Bay.

One local person who met her briefly said: "She was being driven around and did not want any fuss made whatsoever.

"She was taking time out from her hectic schedule to see if Achill was as stunning as it was portrayed in 'The Banshee of Inisherin.'

"She said how beautiful a place it was to live. She came across as a really warm and lovely person. It was a pleasure to meet her."
