Mayo Person of the Year to officially start 10th annual Ronan Clarke charity run

THE 10th annual Ronan Clarke 10k run and 5k run/walk will take place on Sunday next, July 21, starting at 12 noon from Killala Community Centre.

This event continues to honour the memory of Ronan Clarke, a cherished Killala GAA Club member who passed away in 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer, while raising funds for Mayo Roscommon Hospice and the Killala GAA Benevolent Fund.

Since its inception in 2015, Killala GAA Club, in collaboration with the Clarke family, has proudly raised over €80,000 for these worthy causes. The organisers hope to add to this in this year's event.

Prizes will be awarded to male and female participants in the U12, U14, U16 and adult categories for the 5k race, and to both male and female participants in the 10k race.

The prestigious Ronan Clarke Memorial Cup will be presented to the first Killala GAA Club member to cross the finish line in the 10k race. Presentations will be made to all prize winners, followed by refreshments.

This year's race will be officially started by special guest Rita Casey, the 2024 Mayo Person of the Year.

Registration will begin at 10.30 a.m. at Killala Community Centre. The registration fee is €15 for the 5k race and €25 for the 10k.

For those unable to attend but wishing to contribute, donations can be made via the event's GoFundMe page. Search for ‘2024 Ronan Clarke Walk & Run’ on the GoFundMe website.

The donation page will also be shared on Killala GAA’s social media platforms.
