The five contenders: Dara Calleary and Lisa Chambers, Damian Ryan, Paul McNamara and Brendan Mulroy

Five Mayo FF contenders for general election nominations

Five elected representatives have been nominated to contest the imminent Mayo Fianna Fáil general election selection convention.

They are outgoing Minister of State Dara Calleary TD (Ballina), outgoing Senator Lisa Chambers (Castlebar), Councillor Brendan Mulroy (Westport), Councillor Paul McNamara (Achill) and Councillor Damian Ryan (Ballinrobe).

It is expected that three candidates will be selected in the five-seat constituency.

However, party HQ has yet issued a directive on candidate numbers.

The date has not yet been confirmed for the convention - but it is expected to take place within the coming weeks.

The general election is widely predicted to take place in October or November.
