Man airlifted to hospital following Mayo quad bike accident

Mayo Mountain Rescue Team was called out to assist in the rescue of a man injured in a quad bike accident on rough terrain near Liscarney, Westport.

The incident, which marks Mayo Mountain Rescue Team's 19th call-out of 2024, occurred yesterday at 15.48.

Responding to a request from the National Ambulance Service, Mayo Mountain Rescue Team members, along with paramedics, were transported to the scene by local farmers and the casualty’s family.

The rescue team worked with NAS to package the injured man and, upon the arrival of the Irish Coast Guard's Rescue 118, assisted with the hi-line operations.

The casualty was successfully airlifted to Mayo University Hospital.

The rescue team stood down at 16:57.

MMRT expressed gratitude for the collaboration with NAS and Rescue 118, and extended their thanks to the family members and local farmers for their crucial assistance.

In a post on social media, they also wished the injured man a speedy and successful recovery.
