Charity cyle on Mayo's Great Western Greenway set for August 4

Mayo Cancer Support has announced that the 2024 Great Western Greenway Cycle will be held on Sunday, August 4.

This fun, family-friendly 50km leisure cycle along the Great Western Greenway between Westport and Tiernaur was founded by the late John Tiernan and has been run annually in aid of Mayo Cancer Support for over a decade.

John, of Doughmakone, Louisburgh, was a former vice-chairperson of the board of directors of Mayo Cancer Support Association and gave tirelessly and generously of his time for the good of others up until his untimely and much-lamented death in 2022.

The charity is honoured to continue this much-loved annual event as a fitting tribute to John and his great legacy in the local cancer support sector.

Registration for the this year's cycle costs €20 per person and can be comleted online via iDonate or in person from 9 a.m. at Westport Leisure Centre on the day, with cyclists departing from 10 a.m. Refreshments will be served along the way at Nevin’s of Tiernaur.

All proceeds from the cycle will be in aid of Mayo Cancer Support – a registered local charity that provides emotional support to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis or bereavement. Based at Rock Rose House in Castlebar, the charity’s services include professional one-to-one counselling, complementary therapies like massage, reiki and reflexology, children’s services and group activities. All are available free of charge to cancer patients/survivors and their loved ones.
