Bank can proceed with new ATM in Mayo county town

THE Bank of Ireland has successfully appealed a council decision which rejected their plans to relocate the ATM at their Castlebar branch.

The building at Ellison Street is a protected structure and council planners felt that the move - to the right of the existing ATM - would negatively impact the front facade.

The works proposed involve the installation of a new ATM, along with alterations to an existing window, and removing a section of an existing stonework plinth.

Planners felt the new ATM would significantly alter the fenestration associated with the facade.

The appeals board has overturned that decision, granting permission subject to a number of conditions, including the appointment of a conservation expert to manage, monitor and implement the works on the site to ensure adequate protection of the retained and historic fabric during the works.
