New running tracks for two Mayo clubs

THE athletics community in west and east Mayo has received a welcome boost.

Plans to construct a new athletics facility in Aghagower, comprising of a six-lane running track, including sprint lanes, a 60m sprint track, and high jump, shot putt and long jump areas, have been approved.

Mayo County Council has granted planning permission for the project to Aughagower Community Developments CLG.

Meanwhile in Charlestown, East Mayo Athletics Club can also push on with new facilities following council approval.

Their plans include a six-lane running track including sprint lane, a long jump area, a javelin and shott put area and floodlighting, at Lowpark.
