Drones causing problems for emergency services during Reek pilgrimage

The use of drones is causing issues for emergency services during the annual Croagh Patrick pilgrimage today.

The Mayo Mountain Rescue Team has issued a statement regarding the number of drones currently operating on the Reek.

It stated: "Today is a traditional pilgrimage day on the mountain and we have an Air Corp helicopter standing for transporting a casualty to hospital should an emergency arise.

"For safety reasons the helicopter will not operate when there is a drone in the vicinity.

"For this reason we ask the operators to ground the drones and desist from any further use today.

"Thanks for your co-operation."
