Incredible humpback whale sightings off the coast of Mayo

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) have recently documented a spectacular sighting of three humpback whales off the coast of Dun Briste and Ceide in north Mayo.

These majestic creatures were first observed on Saturday and have continued to grace the area through Tuesday, delighting marine enthusiasts and local residents alike.

Remarkably, these whales have been frequenting the same bay, Donegal Bay, where they were spotted last year, suggesting a possible seasonal return to the region. The consistency of their appearances highlights the importance of preserving our marine environments, which these whales evidently favour.

The team behind this exciting discovery includes Tom Breathnach from Belmullet, Brendan Quinn from Gort, Marcus Hogan from Galway, and Gary Burrows from Portrush.

Their dedication to monitoring and protecting marine life has once again brought attention to the incredible biodiversity of our seas.

One of the standout features of this recent observation is the breath taking aerial drone footage captured by the team.

This footage, alongside high-resolution photographs, provides an unprecedented view of these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.
