West Mayo greenway link at N5 approved

A PLANNING report to provide a greenway link at Attireesh in Westport has been adopted by local councillors.

The 300-metre off road link will connect the N5 Active Travel route via the N5 underpass to the L6813 Attireesh Road and Great Western Greenway. An amenity area which includes a bike-stand, picnic benches and bike service stand is also proposed.

Proposing its adoption, Councillor Peter Flynn said the reality is that this probably should have been done as part of the northern relief road. It will take people off the N59 and trying to figure out the Attireesh junction.

On the greenway in general, its official starting/end point in Westport needed to be worked out, said Councillor Flynn.

It needs proper signposting as people don't know how to get onto it, along with maps along the route explaining where you are and distance to the next point, he said.

Five submissions were made on the proposal after it went out on public display and they were dealt with in a report circulated to members at a Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting.
