Proposed cargo facility to give companies air-freight options at Mayo airport

A NEW two-storey warehouse and cargo facility for import, export and storage services is proposed at Knock Airport Business Park.

Ireland West Logistics plans to develop, build and operate a modern warehouse, storage facilities, cargo handling and associated facilities within the Strategic Development Zone (Area 1B, MRO Campus) at Ireland West Airport.

A report submitted to Mayo County Council's planning department highlights how there are currently no air-freight options in the northwest of Ireland despite the substantial pharmaceutical presence in the region.

Dublin and Shannon's pharmaceutical air-freight facilities operate at capacity.

The aim of the facility will be to offer both import and export services to companies in the western region and beyond for their components, raw materials and products.

The developers believe the facility delivers on the strategic development plan for Ireland West Airport along with future development of the MRO Campus.

This facility would open another commercial business to the airport, additional employment to the area and opens air freight options to the western region and beyond.

It will offer air-side access to runway for both import and export, designated custom screening and setdown area within the building, and storage of components, raw materials and products.

Parking facilities include 15 HGV trailer spaces, 10 sheltered bicycle stands and 163 spaces for cars, including six electric vehicle parking spaces.
