East Mayo community mourns man who died in Sligo accident
A Mayo man who died in a bank holiday weekend traffic accident in Sligo has been named locally.
Teacher James McNeive (28), from Knock, lost his life in the tragedy which occurred at Drumcliffe on Sunday morning.
The community in Knock and Aghamore, where he played football, is devastated by his loss. They have rallied round to support the McNeive family since news of the tragedy broke, with Mr. McNeive recalled as a great friend and a popular figure locally.
Emergency services responded following the collision between a van and lorry shortly after 6 a.m. on Sunday on the N15 at Urlar, Drumcliffe.
Mr. McNeive, the driver and sole occupant of the van, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the lorry was taken to Sligo University Hospital for assessment. His injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward. They are also seeking road users with camera footage, including dash-cam footage, who were traveling between Drumcliffe and Grange at the time of the collision to make it available to them.
