Nina recalls first beach win in Doolough as Mayo festival goers prepare for 2024

THE historic Doolough Beach horse race festival has garnered the support of newly elected Fine Gael MEP Nina Carberry. After a brief hiatus, the unique event is set to take place on Sunday, August 18, in Geesala.

In an exclusive statement to The Connaught Telegraph, Carberry reminisced about her connection to the event.

“Yes, Geesala on the strand was my first beach win. It was an incredible feeling on such a stunning beach.

“I remember my mum was fascinated by the unique stones and the rolling sand dunes there. What a day. I’ll never forget it,” Carberry shared.

The festival promises not just thrilling races but also live music, children's entertainment, and food and drink options. And adding to the festive atmosphere, the best dressed competition will feature notable judges from the fashion world.

Participants in the best dressed competition will vie for significant cash prizes, with categories for men, women, and even underage entrants, ensuring a fun and inclusive contest for all attendees. “Time to get planning that outfit,” the organisers urged.

Rásaí na gCapaill, the traditional horse racing on Doolough Beach, remains the cornerstone of the festival, promising an unforgettable day of sport and community celebration.
