Repairs to Achill water burst underway

UISCE Éireann is working to restore water to customers in parts of Achill following a major burst.

Every effort is being made to maintain water supply to as many customers as possible, but the burst at Saile is impacting the communities of Shraheens, Glenco, Derreens, Cloughmore, Currane and surrounding areas.

Crews are on site this afternoon repairing the main and it’s expected works will be completed this evening.

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.

Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill assured customers that every effort is being made to restore water as quickly as possible.

“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while the repair works are ongoing,” she said.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. Detailed, real-time and local information about water service and supply issues is available on www.water.ie.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and updates are also issued via X @IWCare.
