Acoustic quartet Jargon are on stage in the Linenhall on September 26.

Splendid September on Linenhall stage

ALL at the Linenhall Arts Centre are excited to divulge its multi-genre mix of events, including a tempting duo of music performances, this September.

Theatrical high jinks will ensue with Count To Ten, presented by The Unmasked Players on Thursday, September 12.

Madame Director is having a tough time recruiting a suitable cast for an upcoming play. To say that some wholly unsuitable people turn up to audition is an understatement. Deciding to forge ahead, she is determined to make the most of her motley crew.

Sparks fly and tempers fray during rehearsals, as she puts her budding cast through their paces. Question is, can she get them to 'tune in and focus' without too many casualties?

Penned by Fiona Hoban, this light-hearted one-act comedy play will have you laughing out loud.

BROSE WALSH BAND

Following the tremendous success of its celebration of the Brose Walsh Band, and two sold-out shows last year, the group return to the Linenhall for an exclusive concert on Friday, September 13.

As one of Ireland’s longest established dance bands, the iconic Brose Walsh band boasts an unbroken family legacy. Over 86 years, three generations and hundreds of gigs worldwide, it is synonymous with the dance band and showband eras in Ireland, and of great cultural significance to Co. Mayo.

JARGON

Next up, performing live is the legendary, multi-instrumentalist acoustic quartet Jargon, on Thursday, September 26.

Charlie McGettigan, Eurovision winner with 'Rock 'n’ Roll Kids', initially established the group in 1973, reforming 50 years later to its current ensemble, accompanied by band members Gerry Grennan, Liam Gilmartin and Brian Mulligan.

Esteemed musicians individually and collectively, Gerry Grennan has played with the likes of Christy Moore, Dolores Keane and Eleanor Shanley and now with new member Brian Mulligan, as part of The Old Market St. Swing Band’s Friday evening residency in Thomas Connolly’s, Sligo. Liam Gilmartin also joined forces with Grennan for the very successful and much lamented Hennigan’s Blooze Band.

With a storied history, the group revisit their interpretations and original songs in Ragtime, Blues, Folk and Bluegrass styles, featuring rich three and four-part harmonies.
