Passing of former Mayo garda deeply mourned

THE death of former Mayo garda John Melvin is being deeply mourned.

John was one of life's real gentlemen, a warm, friendly personality who gave sterling service to the community as a member of An Garda Síochána up until his retirement.

John, of Curradrish Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Lacken, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo, died peacefully in the loving care of the staff in the Carra Suite, Sacred Heart Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

An absolute gentleman to the core, John had a word for everyone and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and called him friend.

John was predeceased by his parents John and Mary, brother Martin and sister Mary (Hennessy).

He will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his heartbroken wife Teresa of fifty years, sons Shane and Damian, daughter-in-law Laragh, brothers Padraig, Michael (Lacken, Enniscrone), Jerry (Whitegate, Cork), Eamon (Gort, Co. Galway), Brendan (Salthill, Galway) and sister Chris (Kilgannon) (Frankford, Enniscrone), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and neighbours, to whom sympathy is extended on their great loss.

John will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Monday from 5 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. Following requiem Mass on Tuesday at 1 p.m., he will be laid to rest afterwards in Castlebar New Cemetery.
