Passing of Mayo charity shop volunteer is deeply regretted

Tributes have been paid to Valerie Kavanagh (née Smyth), Glenfort, Castlebar, and formerly of Main Street, Swinford, on her passing.

She is sadly missed by her husband Tom, sons Thomas and Joe, daughter Claire, mother Kitty Smyth, cherished grandchildren Caitlin, Thomas, Callum, Ryan and Fia, sisters Jenny, and Vanessa, brother Bernard, daughter-in-law Lisa, brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives and many friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

She was predeceased by her father Jim and sister Maura.

An affable and good natured personality, the deceased gave outstanding service to the NCBI Charity Shop in Castlebar over a number of years.

She was also a former member of the staff of Dunnes Stores, Castlebar.

Tributes on social media described Valerie as 'a lovely lady, gentle and humble'.

Another tribute referred to her kindness and warmth and the fact she was 'a special person'.

Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul took place today at Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, prior to removal to Shannon Crematorium for committal service.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
