Demolition of landmark building in Mayo town nears completion

A demolition crew is putting the final touches to the levelling of a prominent building at Moneen, Castlebar.

The property was known for years as ‘Ronnie’s Shop’. However, it has not been used as a commercial premises for some time.

A restaurant is planned for the location once the site has been cleared and a rebuild completed.

Prominent Castlebar building firm Seamus O’Brien and Sons, have the contract for the rebuild project.

An outside firm of demolition workers are in the process of clearing the site at the moment.

All site clearance is expected to be completed by the weekend.

The building which is being demolished is part of a block of semi-detached buildings built in the late 1970s early 1980s.
