Tributes to talented Mayo engineer on his passing

The death of Robert Fitzgerald, Blackthorn Apartments, Turlough Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Derrew, Partry, has evoked a sense of immense loss in the community.

Warm tributes are being paid to the talented engineer who was a prominent member of the staff of Castlebar-based firm, Egis (formerly JB Barry & Partners Limited).

One stated: "He will be so badly missed as an esteemed engineer, and, more importantly, a friend whom’s company was always enjoyed without exception.

"Our office will forever be a little empty without his presence.

"Our sadness is only lifted by such happy memories of Robert, especially sharing such amusing anecdotes with his signature dry wit."

Another said: "I worked with Robert in JBB and it was always a pleasure. He was a great engineer, a gentleman, always kind and very witty. Robert will be sorely missed by all who knew him."

A further tribute observed: "Robert was a warm, friendly, and talented individual and was held in the highest regard by his colleagues and friends."

He will be sadly missed by his heartbroken parents Eileen and Tom, brother James, sister-in-law Geri, nephew Finn, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Robert was predeceased by his grandparents Martha and Richard Molloy and Anne and James Fitzgerald and his aunts Margaret and Attracta.

Robert will repose in Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, this evening (Wednesday) from 5.30 to 7 p.m.

Removal from Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home on Thursday morning, arriving at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Funeral Mass at 11.30am.

Afterwards, Robert will be laid to rest in Glenisland Cemetery.
