Mayo celebrates unique provincial golf double

Mayo golf savoured a special day of glory at Oughterard Golf Club, Co. Galway, yesterday.

Teams representing Achill and Castlebar lifted provincial titles in their respective finals.

Achill took the mixed foursomes crown, overcoming Portumna in a hard-fought decider.

And Castlebar joined them in the winner's enclosure by defeating the host club, Oughterard, in the mixed fourball decider.

It was the first time this event was introduced by Golf Ireland and Castlebar become inaugural winners in Connaught.

Both team now go forward to the national finals on September 14 in Oughterard.
