Tributes to a great Mayo community man on his passing

The death has occurred of Stephen Grogan, Hazel Lawns, Ballyhaunis, and formerly Bekan, Claremorris.

Predeceased by his father Jarlath, he is deeply regretted by his mother Margaret, son Philip, Philip's mother Faith and her son Michael, sisters Linda (Abbeyknockmoy), Anna (Sydney) and Joanne (Balla), nieces Rachel, Rebecca, Grace, Darcy, Ellen and Raéaltín, nephews Mark, Harrison and Donnacha, brothers-in-law Mark, Daniel and Gerry, uncles, aunts, relatives and friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

In a tribute, Councillor Alma Gallagher stated: "We are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Stephen Grogan, a man who dedicated his life to the betterment of Ballyhaunis.

"As the coordinator of Ballyhaunis Family Resource Centre, Stephen was deeply committed to the growth and advancement of our community.

"He was actively involved in numerous local community groups, always ready to lend his expertise and generously share his vast knowledge—especially in securing funding to support community initiatives.

"Before joining Ballyhaunis FRC, Stephen worked with Kiltimagh IRD, delivering the Social Inclusion Programme.

"I had the privilege of working alongside him on many occasions and his attention to detail and research skills were remarkable.

"Stephen’s dedication has left a lasting impact on our community, and his absence will be profoundly felt across the many groups and committees he served.

"Our deepest condolences to his family, friends and work colleagues in Ballyhaunis Family Resource Centre."

Labour Party leader Deputy Ivana Bacik said Stephen was deeply committed to the student movement "and we will always remember his great contribution to social justice."
