Mayo legend linked with potential role in McStay’s backroom team

Former Mayo GAA star Andy Moran may be set to join Kevin McStay’s backroom team as a coach ahead of the 2025 season according to the Irish Sun.

With a review of McStay’s second campaign nearing completion, a management shakeup is anticipated, and Moran is among the leading candidates to be added to the setup.

The Ballaghadereen native, who retired from inter-county football in 2019, brings a wealth of experience.

After stepping down as Leitrim manager last month following three years in charge, he is now available for a return to the Mayo fold.

Moran’s coaching journey began in 2020 with the Mayo U-20s, before he took charge of his club, Ballaghadereen, in 2021.

His success there led to the call-up from Leitrim for the 2022 campaign.

Mayo, under McStay, endured a disappointing end to their 2024 season, failing to reach the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals for the first time since 2018, following a penalty shootout loss to Derry in the preliminary quarter-final.
