Weather warning issued for Mayo as heavy rain expected

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Rain Warning for Mayo and surrounding counties, with heavy and persistent rain expected over the next 24 hours.

The warning, which is in effect from 10:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, includes not only Mayo but also Clare, Cork, Kerry, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, and Sligo.

Residents and visitors are urged to take precautions as the rain may lead to several hazards across the region.

Met Éireann has highlighted the following potential impacts:

- Localised Flooding: Heavy rainfall could overwhelm drainage systems, leading to localized flooding in low-lying areas.

- Difficult Travelling Conditions: Roads may become slick and visibility reduced, creating challenging conditions for drivers. Extra caution is advised, particularly on secondary roads and in areas prone to flooding.

- Impact on Outdoor Events: Any outdoor events planned during this period could face disruption due to the persistent rain, and organizers may need to consider contingency plans.

Met Éireann recommends monitoring their updates and following any advice issued by local authorities.
