Mayo councillor proud to see provision of lighting for north Mayo residents

A Ballina based councillor has delivered 12 new public street lights in the north Mayo town through the provision of discretionary fund.

Councillor Mark Duffy said the area has seen a boost with an investment of over €20,000 from the councillors funding of new infrastructure.

Duffy remarked, “Five new lights will go live this evening Tuesday August 27 at Belleek which will improve safety for those using the athletic track, Belleek Woods and Ballina Town FC grounds and visitors and staff of the Connacht Whiskey distillery.

Two lights were recently installed at Liabradore, addressing two black spots which were raised with councillor Duffy by residents during the local elections in June.

A further five were installed earlier this year from his fund at the Newlands Road off the Killala Road where residents were left in the dark for what he belived was far too long.

Independent Councillor Mark Duffy has encouraged residents in the area to get in touch with new lighting requests, which he will try and support the funding of in 2025.

He concluded by thanking Mayo based contractors Electric Skyline and Mayo County Council who installed the lights at his request on behalf of residents in the respective areas.
