Ballyglass RNLI assist drifting yacht off north Mayo coast

BALLYGLASS RNLI assisted a yacht that had lost power and was drifting close to rocks in north Mayo yesterday evening.

A member of the public raised the alarm about a yacht being in difficulty in Broadhaven Bay.

Malin Head Coast Guard requested the inshore lifeboat to launch to the vessel near Ballyglass pier at around 5 p.m.

The vessel had lost engine power and was drifting dangerously close to the rocks. After assessing the scene, the lifeboat crew established an alongside tow to safely bring the yacht alongside Ballyglass pier.

The volunteer crew comprised Ryan Geraghty and Seán Reilly with Allen Murray at the helm. They were assisted by shore crew Pat Coyne, James Mangan, Francis Dixon, Brandon Geraghty and LOM Pádraig Sheeran.

Remember, if you see anyone in difficulty on or near the water dial 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
