Schoolbooks scheme given ministerial welcome in Mayo

Local Fianna Fáil Minister Dara Calleary has welcomed the launch for the second year of the scheme that will provide free schoolbooks and resources for over 550,000 children across the country.

The scheme, which was launched today by the Minister for Education Norma Foley, will benefit 3,230 primary schools and special schools around the country.

Minister Calleary said: “I am absolutely delighted to hear of my party colleague and Minister for Education Norma Foley announcing this scheme again for this coming school year.

“Preparation for the school year can be a busy time and it can put a lot of financial burden on parents and guardians. It’s important for them to know that the support is there for them from a government level.

“This measure is further evidence of Fianna Fáil’s commitment to supporting access to education for all by enhancing the educational experience, not just in the classroom but reaching out into the family home.

“By providing free schoolbooks, workbooks and copy books, we will ease some of the financial burden facing families with the back-to-school costs.

“This is of paramount importance to Fianna Fáil in government and I am thrilled to see my party colleague announce this today. I am sure it will be of great relief to many parents and guardians.”

Minister Calleary concluded: “We boast one of the best educational systems across Europe, and this scheme can further enhance a pupil’s educational experience and allow them to thrive in an educational environment. This will then allow them to reach their full potential.”
