History made by Mayo athlete at world championships in Peru

Mayo athlete Oisín Joyce has captured Ireland's first ever javelin medal at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Peru by securing bronze in an exciting final.

The talented Ballinrobe competitor, a member of Lake District A.C., extended his own national Under-20 record to 73.89 metres on his way to his milestone achievement.

His success in Lima marks Ireland's fifth ever medal at World Under-20 level.

What a major triumph for Mayo athletics.
