Mayo golf club opens state-of-the art practice area

CLAREMORRIS Golf Club has launched a new state-of-the-art practice area.

The short game skill academy was officially unveiled on Friday evening.

The new practice area is a big boost for beginners starting out and more seasoned golfers looking to improve their game.

Club president Ina Hennelly cut the ribbon to declare the new facility officially open, joined by club captain Andrew Finn and lady captain Florrie Campbell.

It was a special weekend for president Ina Hennelly as she hosted her president's prize. Results there were as follows.

Gents: 1st Damien Cubbard 65, 2nd Michael McNamara 67, gross Eoin Prendergast, 3rd Brian Farragher 69, 4th Joe Diskin 70 (back nine), 5th John Brady 70, 6th Alan Gurren 73 (back nine), 7th Derek Reilly 73 (back three), past president Willie Feeley 77 (back nine), beginners men's 1st Sean Higgins 44, junior boys' 1st Calum Waldron (back six).

Ladies: 1st Martina Hennelly 71, 2nd Deirdre McDermott 75 nett (back nine), gross Sarah Gallagher, 3rd Angela Prenty 75, 4th Noreen McHugh 76 (back 6), past president Cora Judge 76, 9 hole category A Michelle O'Sullivan 20, 9 hole category B Mary Coleman 24, 9 hole category C Finola Mellett 13, beginners ladies 1st Pauline Higgins.
