by Conor Curran
Irish Rail have announced a new wave of driver recruitment around the country, including for positions in Ballina and Westport, with a salary that reaches up to €65,000 per year.
In a statement provided on their website, Irish Rail stated: “We are delighted to launch our 2024 Driver Campaign.
"It is an exciting time to be a part of the Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail One Team.
"We have welcomed over 200 new trainee drivers into our organisation over the past number of years.
"We wish to continue this growth by providing YOU with an opportunity to be a part of our future.”
“Candidates must be willing to work various shift patterns including weekend work.
"We match the responsibility of this safety-critical role with a salary scale that can reach a maximum of €65k per annum.
"Successful candidates will develop full operational knowledge prior to qualification as part of the Train Driver Training programme.”
While full training will be provided to successful applicants, candidates must meet European Train Driver Licensing requirements, with a minimum of nine years of full-time education.
Candidates must also be over the age of 20.
They are specifically looking for drivers to operate in the areas of:
•Greater Dublin Area (Includes Connolly, Heuston and DART locations, Fairview and Bray)
•Athlone
•Ballina
•Cork
•Galway
•Limerick
•Mallow
•Sligo
•Waterford
•Westport
More information is available on their website.
Applications close once a quota of candidates is reached, so those looking to apply are urged to do so soon.
Irish Rail has employed over 4,000 people across the country.
This is likely set to increase further with the announcement of the ambitious All-Ireland Rail Review, which hopes to see major expansions to Ireland’s rail network by 2050.
