Minister of State Dara Calleary and Councillor Adrian Forkan meeting with Minister Darragh O'Brien earlier this year to discuss the Cleragh/Lisduff water scheme.

€617,000 in funding approved for east Mayo water scheme

FUNDING for the Cleragh/Lisduff water scheme in Kiltimagh has been officially sanctioned.

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O'Brien, has today approved and signed off on €617,000 for the scheme.

The funding allocation was confirmed by local Councillor Adrian Forkan who, with Minister of State Dara Calleary, had lobbied the minister for an increased allocation for the project.

Mayo County Council approved a planning application to deliver a new water supply to the 20 plus households on the scheme last April.

Local residents have had a long-running campaign to get connected to the local water treatment plant in Glore.

Councillor Forkan welcomed today's announcement as significant progress in bringing a fresh, clean and reliable water supply to homes.
