Mayo Tidy Towns group prepare for national Make Way Day

THROUGHOUT the year, and in particular over the next few weeks, Castlebar Tidy Towns are preparing for Make Way Day.

People with disabilities will be out and about on Make Way Day along with disability groups and local organisations to highlight obstacles that block the way and complicate the lives of people with disabilities.

Castlebar Tidy Towns play their part in keeping the town accessible to all, with works such as cutting back overgrown hedges that block paths or impede access.

National Make Way Day takes place on Friday, September 27, in a campaign that brings the disability and wider community together to consider the needs of people with disabilities in the public spaces we all share.

People with disabilities, disability groups and local organisations will be highlighting obstacles that block the way and complicate the lives of people with disabilities.

These include:

Cars or vans parked on a footpath blocking the way.

Bicycles/motorbikes chained to lamp posts creating a trip hazard for a visually impaired person.

Illegally placed sandwich boards, forgotten bins, barrels and other obstructions.
