Wayfinding exhibition launch and much more at Mayo arts centre

AMONGST the Linenhall’s multi-faceted events programme for September is Wayfinding, a visual arts exhibition by artist Roisín McGuigan, launching on Friday, September 6, at 5.30 p.m.

McGuigan’s practice is an auto-ethnographic reflection on place, phenomena and the reverberations of growing up near the Northern Irish border, a complicated and unruly place explored through research, memory and anecdote, and realised through paint, print, sculpture and text.

In Wayfinding, Roisín combines references to the history of the linen industry, political conflict, the Ordnance Survey, and how Mayo and Armagh are inextricably linked through these factors, in a range of new and recent works incorporating materials such as linen, flax, hessian and linseed oil.

Originally from County Armagh, now Dublin based, McGuigan is a graduate of NCAD, Burren College of Art, and Turps Art School, London. Having received a number of awards and bursaries for her work, exhibiting widely in venues at home and abroad, Wayfinding runs in the Linenhall gallery until Saturday, October 5, with all encouraged to experience it, or attend the launch.

COUNT TO TEN

The Unmasked Players tread the boards of the Linenhall stage on Thursday, September 12, proudly presenting Count To Ten, in which Madame Director is having a tough time recruiting a suitable cast for an upcoming play. To say that some wholly unsuitable people turn up to audition is an understatement. Deciding to forge ahead, she is determined to make the most of her motley crew.

Sparks fly and tempers fray during rehearsals, as she puts her budding cast through their paces. Question is, can she get them to 'tune in and focus' without too many casualties?

Penned by Fiona Hoban, this light-hearted one act comedy play will have audiences laughing out loud.
