Mayo recipients of First Choice Credit Union community fund announced

First Choice Credit Union has announce the recipients of its inaugural €100,000 Mayo Community Fund.

The fund, launched earlier this year, is an initiative designed to support projects within the common bond of First Choice Credit Union for social, cultural or charitable purposes (including community development).

With over 80 applications submitted, the selection process for the community fund was extremely competitive, with each project evaluated on its benefit to the community, sustainability, alignment with the values of the Credit Union and environmental benefits.

In total, 12 projects have been selected to share the €100,000 Community Fund.

Speaking of the announcement, First Choice Credit Union chairperson, Joe Butler said: “We are delighted to support these very deserving community projects across our common bond.

"We look forward to seeing the positive changes that these projects bring and the impact it will have on their respective communities.

"Congratulations to all recipients. Additionally, we fully acknowledge the wonderful voluntary effort by all applicants in our community, which is greatly admired and appreciated.”

Anne King, CEO of First Choice Credit Union commented: “It was fantastic to receive such a positive response and so many excellent applications for our community fund.

"The work and projects being undertaken throughout our local communities is fantastic and we’re delighted to play our part in their success. To those who were unsuccessful this time around, we would encourage all to apply again in the future.“

First Choice Credit Union will launch another round of funding for their Community Fund in 2025.

Whilst the Community Fund is for larger scale projects and initiatives, First Choice Credit Union continue to provide sponsorship and financial supports to clubs, groups, schools, charities and more, throughout their common bond on an ongoing basis.

These smaller sponsorships, which are separate to the Community Fund, continue to play a key role locally with almost €20,000 being issued to over 70 recipients this year alone. A sponsorship form can be collected in any First Choice Credit Union branch or downloaded from www.fccu.ie.
