The victorious Ballina Town 'B' side who overcame Castlebar Celtic 'B'

Ballina Town 'B' triumph in Mayo Premier Cup final

Ballina Town ‘B’ secured the Mayo Premier Cup in a thrilling finale against Castlebar Celtic ‘B’, winning 5-4 on penalties after the sides were level at 1-1 following extra time at Umbro Park, Milebush.

Celtic struck early through Simon Jordan, who latched onto a clever lobbed pass from Ruairi Nevin to give his side the lead just two minutes in.

Ballina Town hit back in the 18th minute when Ryan Moran pounced on a defensive error from Celtic before calmly finishing from close range.

Both teams had further chances, but goalkeepers Neil Langdon and Peter Basquille were in fine form, denying several goal-scoring opportunities, including a superb clearance off the line from Celtic’s captain, Ciaran Gavin.

With no winner after extra time, penalties decided the match. Both sides converted confidently, but when Liam Whyte’s spot-kick struck the crossbar, Ballina Town ‘B’ claimed victory and completed a historic treble.

Captain Ted Rowe praised his team’s effort and thanked the management, remarking on a sensation trophy-laden season for the Moy Men.
