Construction starts on bus shelters in Mayo village

Work has got underway on the provision of two bus shelters in the village of Ballyvary.

Councillor Ger Deere had lobbied and highlighted the need with Mayo County Council and the National Transport Authority to have shelters installed at the location as well as other locations in the Castlebar district.

He stated: "Since the bus stops were put in place over 30 years, commuters had to endure inclement weather conditions while waiting for a bus without a shelter.

"We are trying to get people to use transport as much as possible but if we don't provide the proper infrastructure it's hard to expect people to use this service.

"I want to thank the council, NTA and Minister Alan Dillion for their help in securing funding for these shelters and I look forward to similar shelters being installed in other locations in the near future."
