Councillor Alma Gallagher

Another nominee withdraws from Mayo FG selection convention

Ballyhaunis Fine Gael Councillor Alma Gallagher has announced that she will not be putting herself forward as a candidate for her party's upcoming general election selection convention next Sunday.

Instead, she has reaffirmed her commitment to continuing the work she was elected to do in the Claremorris electoral area, honouring the promises made during her local election campaign.

“I am deeply honoured to have been nominated for consideration, but my focus remains on the unfinished business that I have pledged to complete for the people who elected me,” said Councillor Gallagher.

“The completion of the Ballyhaunis Primary Health Care Centre, the renovation of the old convent national school, the provision of social and affordable housing, and the reinstatement of funding for the N60 are all priorities that require my full attention

Councillor Gallagher, who hails from Ballyhaunis and serves as the manager of Clar IRD in Claremorris, has her finger on the pulse of local issues and understands the needs of the people she serves.

“Improving sports facilities for Ballyhaunis and Claremorris, and addressing infrastructure in rural communities are top priorities . These are the matters I promised to focus on when elected, and I intend to honor that commitment.”

While she has opted out of running for the general election this time, Cllr. Gallagher remains open to future opportunities.

“For now, my heart is in delivering the work I pledged to do locally. But as they say, never say never.”

She also extended her best wishes to her Fine Gael colleagues who are seeking nomination at the Selection convention.

“I would like to wish all our nominees every success at the convention and in the general election campaign.

"I know they will represent our party and the people of Mayo with great dedication.”

There are now three nominees remaining - Minister of State Alan Dillon, Councillor John O'Hara and Keira Keogh.
