Water outage disrupts service in Mayo town

Westport residents faced water outages this morning following a major watermain burst on Altamount Street.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours, has affected areas along the Ballinrobe Road as far as the Hotel in Aughagower and the Newport Road.

Local Fine Gael councillor Peter Flynn provided an update, confirming that water will be restored shortly to the Newport Road area. "We have opened a valve on the Castlebar Road," Flynn stated, "and water service will resume shortly there."

However, the Ballinrobe Road area will remain without water until repairs to the damaged watermain are completed.

The councillor indicated that this work is expected to take several hours, with full water service anticipated to be restored later today.
