A section of the former hat factory in Castlebar is being converted into a new school building for Castlebar Educate Together N.S.

New Mayo primary school building is given fresh impetus

The new Castlebar Educate Together N.S. building at the old hat factory site in the town has been given fresh impetus.

The capital project has now been assigned to the Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB) school capital appraisal for necessary works.

Welcoming the news, Minister of State Alan Dillon said additional funding has been sanctioned for roof repairs to support the completion of the ongoing renovation efforts.

"I intend to keep the pressure on the department and the building appraisal department to see this well deserved school completed," he added.

Works have already taken place at the site in the provision of classrooms, a staff room and playground facilities, for which funding was provided.

When completed, the school will move from its building at Marsh House as well as the classes conducted at a premises off Cavendish Lane.

The progress on the project has also been welcomed by Senator Lisa Chambers and Deputy Michael Ring.
