Proposed new wind farm in north Mayo

PLANS for a new wind farm in north Mayo have been submitted to Mayo County Council.

ABO Energy Ireland Ltd. are behind the project, comprising eight turbines, in the townlands of Keerglen, Ballykinlettragh and Ballinglen.

The proposed energy project will be known as Keerglen Wind Farm, situated on a site measuring a combined c.81.88 ha.

ABO Energy says it intends to continue consultation and to engage with the local community throughout the project, both construction and operations, should the application be granted. The company is also committed to paying into a community benefit fund to go towards local projects and initiatives.

The wind farm will have one permanent site entrance, from the L51723, with a temporary roadway also to facilitate delivery of turbine components and other abnormal loads.

A clear-span bridge crossing the Keerglen River is also part of the development proposal.

The application seeks a 10-year planning permission, with a 30-year operational lifespan from the date of the commissioning of the wind farm.
