Homeless people in Mayo should be accommodated in their own area

THE treatment of people who find themselves homeless being sent to the other side of the county from where they normally reside is something Councillor Michael Kilcoyne is not happy about.

The council isn't making provision to accommodate them in their own area, he told a meeting, with people in Castlebar sent to Charlestown or Ballinrobe.

Where there are children, how do they get to school, he asked management.

“That is no way to treat people,” he said.

Councillor Kilcoyne has requested a report on the number of people from each municipal district who have been sent out of their area.
