Mayo in mourning over passing of 'a true lady' Christina Walkin

The death of Christina Walkin (née Gibbons), 30 Meadow Park, Westport Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Rowan Drive, Castlebar, has evoked a tremendous sense of loss in the community.

In her early 40s, she died at Mayo Hospice yesterday surrounded by her loving family.

Christina is deeply mourned by her husband and soul mate John, children Tara, Aoife and Shane, and parents Jack and Eileen (née Murray), Rowan Drive, Castlebar.

She is also survived by her parents-in-law Nina and John Tunney, brothers Declan, Martin and Alan, sisters Rosaleen and Marie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, partners, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives and her special friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their immeasurable loss.

Warm tributes are being paid to her on social media.

One stated: "I went to school and also worked with Christina. She was always so kind, honest and I always remember how supportive she was."

Another said: "She was full of life and a fantastic neighbour."

A further tribute described her as 'a true lady'.

Christina will repose at her home, 30 Meadow Park, Westport Road, Castlebar, on Thursday from 5 to 7.30 p.m.

Removal from her home on Friday morning and arriving at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, at 11 a.m. for Funeral Mass at 11.30 a.m.

Afterwards Christina will be laid to rest in the New Cemetery, Newport Road, Castlebar.
